Progress Report Week 5

Work in Progress - Integration of Mircom TX3 to OpenGN
2019/02/08

Description:

The Mircom's TX3 series of telephone access systems provide high quality two way communication between residents and their visitors in a multi-unit dwelling establishment. The basic TX3 system consists of the TX3 Entry Panel and depending on the application, may be integrated with a combination of Mircom Elevator Restriction Units and Card Access Units. All access systems may be networked together using an RS-485 connection.

The integration of TX3 to openGN is a success. After researching software and hardware manuals, the process for the integration is manageable through network configuration and software tools.

The software tools we need are the following:

  • TX3 network and configuration utility - a tool that lets you add and update the occupant registry, setup telephone access and access cards, create schedules, etc.
  • OpenGN Gateway - a software to let you add your devices/panels using their IP and use this software as their Gateway or communication.
  • MGC Fire Detection and Mass Notification Configurator - a tool to connect flexnet enable panels to openGN through creating jobs, exporting and importing it to openGN
  • XML Converter - a tool to convert different job format to xml files. OpenGN can recieve XML files format only.
  • CodeKey meter - a code key generator for authentication, security and licence. Also shows information like licence due date, technicians info, etc.
  • FX2000 Configuration tool - a tool to let you configure fx2000 information like device IP, date, zones, etc.
*So far, Codekey for MGC tool is expired. The FX2000 tool is also unusable due to licence key needed.

Creating Jobs in this sofware tools are must for openGN to work. The process is exporting jobs from configurator tools and import it to openGN. Jobs are the files that let you configure it first to necessary function in order to work in openGN.

We did a bench test for one TX3 panel by creating a job in the TX3 software tool, which is adding 2 card access. Export and importing to openGN. The job imported will show in the menu tree in OpenGN. It will show all I/O zones and node status. The I/O, subnodes and nodes will be go to unassigned place. So configure it by assigning the subnode (card access) to the zone (in this case room C527). It will also let you change the object (node) function and appearance.

It's necessary to add the node (panels) IP to the OpenGN Gateway Software to communicate one another.

After all the configuration made, we did a test. By bypassing the card access (door open/accessed), openGN will get the signal and will show the zone where the subnode accessed. It went through so thats a success.

Screenshots of the software used:

From OpenGN, it shows where the zone was accessed to
